Formerly known as the ‘morning‑after pill’, emergency contraception can prevent an unintended pregnancy if taken promptly. There are various situations in which it may be needed:

  • Condom breakage or slippage;
  • Complete absence of contraception;
  • Missed pill, vomiting after taking the pill, use of certain antibiotics, expulsion of the vaginal ring, detachment of the patch, etc.;
  • Use of a contraceptive method known to be unreliable (withdrawal method, calculation of fertile and infertile days using the Ogino method, daily temperature tracking, etc.)

The morning after pill is available over the counter in pharmacies under certain conditions, meaning that only a pharmacist is allowed to provide it, after completing a form and asking a few specific questions.

The consultation is free of charge and lasts about 10 minutes.
